A bridge of collaboration connects Detroit and Windsor, Canada and creates an active exchange that gives back to each of the cities and answers the competition's call for projects to rejuvenate Detroit's waterfront.In a city with a turbulent history and unknown future, what kind of space is needed in order to create “a vibrant public space that connects the city to the riverfront”?
What if there was a way to engage the riverfront not just through recreational activities but as it did in its history; through exchange of ideas and cultural interactions? The history of both Detroit and Windsor had been tied to each other. Both invested heavily in the American automotive industry. But only Windsor diversified its industry beyond the automobile.
A bridge of collaboration engages Detroit and Windsor, and creates an active link that can give back to each of the cities and reinvigorates the history of exchange these two cities both had.
Public programs such as galleries and exposition create a continuous layer on top of collaborative programs like business incubators and conference centers.

Typically, the borders of countries are meant to be boundaries that separate and delineate. However, the real opportunity in the border is to create a place of interface that encourages connections and collaborations.
The new structure not only has the recognizable features of a bridge and monument, but also the creative programmatic elements of a business incubator, resulting in a new icon of connection for Detroit.
